A Ready-to-Test Movement Model Seeking Research Partners

Please contact mark [at] rouleaumethod.com with subject line "Research Collaboration".

The Company

Rouleau is an innovative Edmonton-based movement education company, pioneering the field of Orthopedic Longevity: the art and science of ensuring modern humans in sedentary societies can stay capable, pain free and independent into their 80s and beyond.

We have a developed method, qualitative client reports, and early relationships forming with potential research populations, particularly seniors and nurses.

We are now looking for academic collaborators to study the mechanism of effect.

The Premise

Albertans in “very good to perfect” functional health have dropped from roughly 70% in 2015 to 54% in 2024. -Canadian Community Health Survey

Assuming that trend stays consistent, we’ll be at 45% by 2030.

Rouleau would like to stop that from happening.

We want to help get Albertans on a positive trajectory so that they can enjoy their lives, while also reducing demand for the expensive healthcare care associated with muskuloskeletal inability and dysfunction.

The Problem

We believe this downward slope is caused by two key factors:

1. A flattened movement environment. People can live their entire lives moving on nothing but carpet, hardwood, concrete, sidewalks, elevators, and escalators.

2. The modern sedentary lifestyle. People sit at desks, travel in vehicles, and constantly stare at screens that disconnect them from their bodies.

The Hypothesis

This unique (and relatively recent) combination contributes to a condition called sensory motor amnesia, or “body fog”: a reduced ability to feel, organize, and coordinate movement.

This upstream issue then develops into pain, tightness, weakness, injury and loss of ability - or what most people refer to as "aging".

Rouleau's fascial neurosomatic practice is designed to restore the body's "sensing and movement interface". It can be customized according to specific populations, conditions, workforce demands, or athletic pursuits.

Relevant Fields of Research

  • Pain, mobility, balance, and functional independence
  • Biomechanics, exercise physiology, and kinesiology
  • Frailty, neurological recovery, and healthy aging
  • Workforce injury and physical resilience (especially in healthcare)
  • Sport performance and long-term durability

Who We Hope to Meet

We are interested in researchers and graduate students who:

  • Want to study real-world functional outcomes
  • Value transparent, arm’s-length evaluation
  • See potential for publications, student projects, and future grants
  • Want a collaboration that could turn into a longer program of research
  • Desire to be involved in real world impact and changing the trajectory of Albertans.

We are not looking for a rubber stamp or a statistic for a brochure. We are looking for serious collaborators who want to help us uncover the truth.
